What? Travel the world for free?

For many people, traveling the world is just a dream. And for others, it’s a motivation to work hard then maybe it’s an option after retirement or when you win the lottery. But do you really need a lot of money to see the world and when it’s the best time to go?

Traveling around the world doesn’t have to cost a penny. No, it is not a dream! You even get to catch up with the world’s hottest topics in a multilingual and multicultural environment. If you have an ambition to change the world, this international volunteer program can surely give you a lift!

Are you interested?
To be a volunteer interpreter, all you need is proficiency in two of the following languages:
Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. If you can speak more than two, even better!

P.S. we call the interpreters “Communication Coordinator, CC”, because it can go beyond interpreting and enter the domain of customer service.

English and Spanish, this language pair is not needed at the moment as currently, the main audience is from Asia.

Besides interpreter, Peace Boat is also looking for language teachers for English and Spanish. For this, you don’t have to know Japanese nor Chinese as your classes will be assisted by interpreters (CCs).

This 4-month trip saved me more than 16,000 USD/ 14.500 EUR and got myself familiarized with interpreting. It was such a high adrenaline job fighting for every second to produce structured and meaningful sentences in the target language on the spot! Apart from sightseeing with the group, I also got to attend activities and create my own events. I participated in many onboard lectures ranging from Environmental protection in Maldives, Montessori education, diaspora of the African community, migrant workers in Singapore, abolishment of nuclear weapons, to China’s One Road One Belt policy. There were also workshops and lots of social activities like learning Japanese and Spanish, SDGs, sports tournaments, various dance lessons like Irish, traditional Japanese and Salsa, etc. Lots to gain with zero investment!

Maybe you have doubts…

Not sure if it’s something for you?
Not sure if your language level can reach the level of translator and interpreter?
Currently occupied with work, not possible to get an extended leave?
Does your health condition permit you to live on the boat for months?

If you have questions, let me now! I am happy walk you through the process from application to induction. And even if this program is not for you and you might want to explore other volunteering / studying/ internship opportunities abroad, feel free to contact me by message!
